China Absorbs Largest East Kalimantan Exports, Andilnya Up To 31.95 Percent

JAKARTA - China made the highest contribution to the export value from East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) at 31.95 percent or US$6.49 billion to a number of countries for the January - October 2023 period.

"In the January - October 2023 period, China is the main export destination country that has the largest role with a value of 6.49 billion of East Kalimantan's total exports of 22.49 billion US dollars," said Head of the East Kalimantan Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Yusniar Juliana in Samarinda, Thursday.

The second country that absorbs the most exports from East Kalimantan is India, with a value of 2.91 billion US dollars (14.34 percent), followed by the Philippines with 1.9 billion US dollars (9.39 percent), and then Japan with 1.9 billion US dollars (9.38 percent).

The commodities exported by East Kalimantan include oil and gas, such as crude oil and gas, while non-oil and gas exports such as coal, animal or vegetable fats and oils, inorganic chemicals, organic chemicals, various chemical products, wood and goods made from wood or wood charcoal, as well as fish or other animals in water.

"Judging by sector during January - October 2023, East Kalimantan Province's non-oil and gas exports fell by 26.22 percent compared to the same period in 2022," he said.

The decline in non-oil and gas exports was contributed by a decrease in the export yields of mining products by 26.45 percent, then industrial exports decreased by 25.35 percent.

"Cumulatively, the export value of East Kalimantan Province during January-October 2023 was recorded at 22.49 billion US dollars, down 24.71 percent when compared to the same period in 2022," he said.

Specifically in October, he continued, the export value of East Kalimantan Province in October 2023 was recorded at 2.07 billion US dollars, or an increase of 8.70 percent compared to the export value in September 2023.

"October 2023 oil and gas exports recorded 226.07 million US dollars, an increase of 9.15 percent compared to the previous month, while non-oil and gas exports reached 1.85 billion US dollars, an increase of 8.65 percent," said Yusniar.
