JAKARTA - The national packaging industry is projected to grow by around 4-6 percent until the end of 2023.

Director of Business Development of the Indonesian Packaging Federation (IPF) Ariana Susanti said that this growth was supported by an increase in packaging use, especially in the food and beverage sector.

" Packaging is projected to grow 4-6 percent because we are growing along with the use industry, in this case the largest food and beverage industry," said Ariana at the 2023 Indonesian Plastics & Rubber Exhibition at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 15.

For example, Ariana said the existence of plastic is very crucial for packaging goods to food and drinks so that it remains hygienic.

He also projects that the turnover of the plastic industry has exceeded the figure of IDR 116 trillion.

"This sector (plastic industry) grows due to lifestyle changes, e-commerce, people want a healthy lifestyle, including sustainability. That is a very strong issue at this time," said Ariana.

Even so, Ariana also reminded about the waste problems produced by the plastic industry. According to him, these problems should be a common concern.

"Indeed, plastic is the largest, but it is also problematic in the waste because it is disposable carelessly. Do not go to the sea, that is a concern for us, all stakeholders, both from the government, society, NGOs, and from the industry itself," he added.
