PT PLN (Persero) continues to accelerate the implementation of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) so that customer power usage measurements are more accurate and services are more optimal. By cooperating with the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), PLN has succeeded in realizing the pilot project implementation of the AMI smart meter which reached 93.54 percent of the total 1.2 million in 8 (eight) provinces in Indonesia.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo is optimistic that the implementation of this new technology will be able to improve the quality of PLN services to customers with more efficient and responsive management.

"The implementation of the AMI smart meter will provide many benefits in increasing the accuracy and transparency of the KWH meter calculation. With this system, customers can find out the current load profile as well as electricity bills," said Darmawan in a written statement, Tuesday, November 7.

Furthermore, he said, customers can also check electrical energy independently through the PLN Mobile application so that the service pattern is also more flexible because customers are free to choose post or prepaid services.

Darmawan explained that PLN and SGCC moved quickly to implement this new technology. As of October, AMI's smart meters have been implemented in eight provinces, namely: North Sumatra as many as 41,821, Banten 138,733, Greater Jakarta 175,100, West Java 126,926, Central Java 52,071, East Java 81,750, Southeast and West Sulawesi 55,501. The implementation in Bali Province is 476,422 or 86.88 percent.

"In just four months PLN has succeeded in replacing more than 1 million Kwh smart meters for our customers. So at first I didn't expect the progress of 1.2 million smart meters in eight provinces to be completed this year," he explained.
