JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono held a meeting with representatives from Japan regarding the implementation of the World Water Forum (WWF), on Thursday, October 12.

Representatives from Japan themselves are led by the Director General of Water Ministry of Land Resources, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) Japan Atsushi Nakagomef.

Minister Basuki said Japan's support in the implementation of the 10th World Water Forum would be very meaningful, especially in voicing the spirit of international cooperation through Bandung Spirit.

He said, one of the real examples of the implementation of Bandung Spirit is the continuation of Indonesia-Japan cooperation in the development of Sabo technology to anticipate the flow of debris and sediment control in a landscape, especially rivers on mountains.

"So, Bandung Spirit we took to increase the collaboration of water management which is currently known as water justice," Minister Basuki said in a written statement, on Friday, October 13.

On the same occasion, the Director General of Water Ministry of Land Resources, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan, Atsushi Nakagomef, said that all delegates from MLIT participated fully in all processes at the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali.

"We also heard that there will be a political process at the 10th World Water Forum in 2024 which will involve state leaders and ministers. We will technically consider the presence of a number of high-ranking officials from Japan at the 10th World Water Forum in May 2024," he said.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the High-Level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disaster (HELP) Kenzo Hiroki invited Minister Basuki to attend the World Lake Conference in Hungary in November 2023.

"We invite you to come to discuss the idea of World Lake Day," he said.

Responding to this, Minister Basuki stated that the Indonesian government fully supports the World Lake Day proposal to become one of the UN resolutions.

"Because Indonesia also has a lot of lakes and there are dozens of lakes that are our priority for revitalization," he added.
