JAKARTA - President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo revealed that PLN had canceled its electricity sale and purchase contract with the Coal Steam Power Plant (PLTU) with a capacity of 1.3 gigawatts.

"Three years ago, 1.3 gigawatts of the Coal PLTU which had a contract with PLN were successfully canceled," said Darmawan during the 2023 Nusantara Power Connect event, Monday, September 11.

With the cancellation of the contract, he said that he had succeeded in reducing the emission of Gas RUmah Kaca (GHG) by more than 150 million tons of CO2 for 25 years.

Darmawan added, in addition to canceling the contract, PLN has also issued a PLTU development plan with a capacity of 13 gigawatts from the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).

"And that means reducing GRK emissions by around 1.8 billion tons of CO2 for 25 years," added Darmo.

PLN, he said, also replaced 1.1 Gigawatt coal plants with New Renewable Energy (EBT), and set 51.6 percent of the addition of EBT-based power plants.

Darmawan said that currently his party is in the process of designing and redesigning the national electricity plan.

"With this new system, we understand that there is a discrepancy between most EBT sources and the load center so we will build a green engangling super grid to connect it," he said.

Still said Darmawan, PLN is currently designing and building an end-to-end smart grid.

With this new network, PLN can increase the portion of solar and wind energy plants from 5 Gigawatts to 28 gigawatts.

The development of this green enabling super grid and end-to-end smart grid is increasingly pressing to overcome the discrepancies between EBT sources and the electricity demand center and accommodate the massive penetration of variable EBT.

This system in the future will be used to support the construction of the ASEAN Power Grid.

This system is projected to be able to connect trans-state transmission in ASEAN, starting from Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
