Ministry Of PUPR: Arrangement Of Gajah Mungkur Reservoir Rampung December 2023

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements is ensuring that the arrangement of the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir area in Central Java will be completed by the end of this year.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said Gajah Mungkur Reservoir had been operating since 1982 and stemmed the longest river on the island of Java, namely the Bengawan Solo river.

"The Mungkur Elephant reservoir has a function as flood control of 4000 cubic meters per second, irrigates 30,000 hectares of rice fields, provides 600 liters of raw water per second and as a manufacturer of 12.4 megawatts of electricity," he said in a press release on Sunday, September 10.

Basuki explained that this reservoir has a very strategic role for the surrounding area with an inundation area of more than 8,800 hectares.

"The Mungkur Elephant Reservoir is one of the largest reservoirs in Indonesia," he said.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Central Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW), Kuswara explained that the arrangement of the area carried out by the Ministry of PUPR aims to increase the tourism function in Gajah Mungkur Reservoir.

The Mungkur Elephant reservoir has extraordinary landscape potential and can be developed into a tourist city (lake view eco-tourism town). So, with the arrangement of the area carried out by the Ministry of PUPR, it is hoped that it will have a very big impact on the people of Wonogiri Regency. Such as economic empowerment, job creation and becoming the pride of the region," he said.

Meanwhile, the scenario for developing the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir area is divided into 3 zones, namely zone 1 covering an area of 10 hectares, which is a tourist area of Gajah Mungkur Reservoir, and a children's and youth recreation center.

Zone 2 covering an area of 75 hectares is an expansion area for the tourist areas of Gajah Mungkur Reservoir and Lakefront Tourism. Meanwhile, Zone 3 covering an area of 162 hectares is an area of development of Bukit Joglo & Watu Ceknik Adventure & View.

"The arrangement of the Mungkur Gajah Reservoir Area Zone 1 Phase 1 has been carried out since September 2022 and is targeted for completion in December 2023. Currently, the physical progress has reached 47%, with the total budget allocated sourced from the State Budget of Rp22.8 M," explained Kuswara.

For information, the scope of restructuring of reservoirs includes preparation, land development, sub-zone work on the coastal and promenade terraces, main road, sub-zone gate, sub-zone plaza entrance, sub-zone thematic garden, mechanical and electrical. After construction is completed, Gajah Mungkur Reservoir will be inaugurated in December 2023 and managed by the Wonogiri Regency Government.
