JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of ATR/BPN Hadi Tjahjanto, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono, inaugurated the Ciliwung Sodetan in East Jakarta, today.

On this occasion, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the Ciliwung Sodetan could flow the Ciliwung River discharge of 60 cubic meters per second to the East Flood Canal.

Thus, this drain can reduce flood-affected areas by 107 hectares (ha). Later, with Sentiong water pumps and Ciliwung normalization, the risk of flooding inundated areas could be even reduced.

"The Ciliwung normalization has been carried out 16 km out of a total of 33 km, the rest has been programmed starting in 2023 and can be completed in line with the land acquisition program. The Sentiong water pump in the downstream area has a capacity of 50 m3/second, the October estimate can start operating later," said Basuki in his official statement, Monday, July 31.

The Ciliwung Sodetan project began in 2013. In 2015, the construction of the Ciliwung River drain was completed along 650 meters. Then, continued in 2015-2017 with the permanent construction of outlets and the strengthening of the Cipinang River cliffs.

After being stopped, the Ministry of PUPR continued the work of the Ciliwung River drain to the East Flood Canal in 2021 along 580 meters, including the construction of double tunnels, inlet permanent buildings and drain outlets, as well as the continuation of normalization of the Ciliwung River and Cipinang River.

The construction of the Ciliwung Sodetan is in the form of a 1,268 meter long tunnel with 2 pipelines each with a diameter of 3.5 meters, functioning to drain 60 m3/second of the flood discharge from the Ciliwung River to the East Flood Canal (KBT) and Cipinang River.

The project work was carried out by contractor PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA)- PT Jaya Konstruksi (KSO) with a budget of around IDR 1.2 trillion.

On the same occasion, Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono expressed his gratitude, especially to President Jokowi who had initiated the construction of the Ciliwung Sodetan in 2012 and to the Ministry of PUPR who had built this drain until it was completed.

"On behalf of the people and the DKI Government, we would like to thank the President, the Minister of PUPR, and the Minister of ATR for the development of this drain which is beneficial for DKI Jakarta," he said.
