Sri Mulyani: The Government Remains Committed To Strengthening Education Reform

Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani said that the government continues to maintain its commitment to strengthening competitiveness and productivity.

According to the Minister of Finance, this includes improving the quality of human resources which are implemented through a comprehensive policy strategy in the fields of education, health and social protection.

"In 2023, the Indonesian government will place an education budget of IDR 612 trillion or around 40 billion US dollars. The large portion of the education budget is allocated to support primary education to secondary schools, because Indonesia's demographic composition is still dominant at a young age," he said in a press statement, Thursday, July 6.

The Minister of Finance explained that in the last 20 years Indonesia's education priorities have made a lot of progress, including through the expansion of school buildings, increasing access to education in all corners.

In addition, the state is also present to improve facilities and infrastructure, including multimedia facilities to support teaching and learning activities, provide scholarships through the Indonesia Smart program, and implement independent learning programs or independent learning.

"The government is committed to organizing learning throughout life or living long learning for all ages through contact and various modalities so that the younger generation can get better opportunities. This is in line with the priorities to continue to reform and restructure and strengthen the industry, both in the manufacturing and service sectors," he said.

The Minister of Finance added that other efforts were also made, namely by improving labor skills and continuing to support the transition through digitization, automation, and green transition.

He said, this scarcity is relevant to the continued shift and changes in the economy and industry, one of which is through very important innovations in the form of Pre-Employment Cards.

"With a Pre-Employment Card, the government seeks to develop work competencies and community entrepreneurship so that they can be more productive, and competitive," he added.

Furthermore, the state treasurer revealed that Indonesia is struggling to become a high-income country by 2045. For this reason, he continued, improving the quality of human resources is a priority.
