Wins Two 2023 Corporate Emission Transparency Awards, PKT Ready To Boost Indonesia's Decarbonization Rate

JAKARTA - As the largest ammonia and urea producer in Southeast Asia, PT Pupuk East Kalimantan (PKT) is committed to implementing sustainable business principles and establishing its position as a pioneer of green transformation in the country's petrochemical industry.

Not only fulfilling obligations, but this commitment has been attached to every line of activities carried out by PKT itself. The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiative carried out by the company has been widely recognized through various awards and recognitions both at the national and global levels.

The initiative carried out by PKT is in line with the presence of the 2023 Corporate Emission Transparency Award for the company's efforts to reduce carbon emissions in every company's business line process. In the event organized by the B-Universe in collaboration with the Bumi Global Carbon Foundation (BGK Foundation) on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, PKT managed to win two transparency awards for the Reduction of Corporate Emissions in the Green Elite Category and the Transparency Award for Corporate Emissions in the Platinum Plus Category.

The President Director of PKT, Rahmad Pribadi, positively welcomed the appreciation given to PKT by always continuing to be committed to implementing various sustainable emission reduction programs in order to create a better environment.

For PKT, ESG is not just compliance but a way of life. We started planning with ESG orientation and measured our performance results also with ESG. PKT as the largest urea fertilizer producer in Indonesia and Southeast Asia is also committed to being a pioneer in the Green Transformation of Petrochemical Industries. This award achievement is a clear proof of the dedication of all PKT personnel who have always been committed to the company in exploring innovation and technology to implement sustainable business practices within the scope of PKT. Of all that we have done, thank God, it turns out that the implementation of ESG has a direct impact on the financial performance at PKT with a net profit achievement of Rp. 14.59 trillion in 2022.," said Rahmad at his successful speech in achieving the 2023 Carbon Emission Transparency Award.

Currently, PKT is running a series of programs to reduce carbon emissions through the comprehensive implementation of ESG which has been realized through various programs, including the development of green ammonia, construction of soda ash factories, community forest, and utilization of renewable energy sources.

The consistency of this comprehensive application of ESG has also been proven by the success of PKT in ranking first in the Agrochemical category based on the ESG Risk Rating standards of Sustainalytics. Several efforts to reduce carbon emissions have also been implemented in PKT, such as the use of PLTS, and the operational transition from conventional to electric motors and cars. In the future, PKT will also focus on developing innovation and technology to explore the use of renewable energy, including green ammonia.

The innovation developed by PKT also aims to support the government's target to reduce carbon emissions whose commitment is stated in the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) of 31.89 percent in 2030 and another target, namely Net Zero Emission in 2060. PKT itself is also committed to contributing to the environment in its decarbonization efforts by achieving a 32 percent emission reduction target.

Meanwhile, the Editor-in-Chief of Investor Daily, Djaka Susila, revealed that through this award event in the field of the environment, it is able to motivate companies to collaborate in intensifying carbon emissions reduction in the country.

We hope that this award & award can spur all of us to continue to care about the environment around us, Indonesia, because carbon emissions have always been a challenge for us, for companies to continue to be able to reduce carbon emissions. Currently, Indonesia is in a fairly difficult position to reduce carbon emissions, because there are several source records that say that Indonesia's position is in the top 10 and even the top 6 contributors to carbon emissions in the world. And I am sure that the 104 companies present have high concern and collaboration between the government to reduce carbon emissions at this time," concluded Djaka.
