Indonesian Exports Increase To 21.7 Billion US Dollars In May 2023

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's export value in May 2023 reached 21.72 billion US dollars.

This figure is up 12.61 percent compared to April 2023 exports or compared to May 2022, the export value increased by 0.96 percent.

BPS Deputy for Balance and Statistics Analysis Moh. Edy Mahmud said non-oil and gas exports last month reached 20.40 billion US dollars, an increase of 13.18 percent compared to April 2023.

Likewise, it also increased by 1.94 percent when compared to non-oil and gas exports in May 2022.

"Cumulatively, the value of Indonesia's exports in January 'May 2023 reached 108.06 billion US dollars, down 6.01 percent compared to the same period in 2022," he told the media crew in Jakarta on Thursday, June 15.

Edy explained, non-oil and gas exports reached 101.48 billion US dollars, down 6.69 percent. It was stated that the largest increase in non-oil and gas exports in May 2023 against April 2023 occurred in vehicle commodities and its parts amounted to 373.2 million US dollars (60.20 percent).

"Meanwhile, the largest decline occurred in mineral fuels of 175.8 million or 4.39 percent," he said.

According to the sector, non-oil and gas exports from the processing industry in January 'May 2023 fell 8.97 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

This is the same with exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, down 3.95 percent, while exports of mining and other products rose 1.36 percent.

Then, the largest non-oil and gas exports in May 2023 were to China, namely 4.78 billion US dollars. Followed by the United States US$2.05 billion and Japan 1.77 billion US dollars with the contribution of the three reaching 42.12 percent.

Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN and the European Union (27 countries) amounted to US$3.97 billion and US$1.56 billion, respectively.

"According to the province of origin, Indonesia's largest exports in January 'May 2023 came from West Java with a value of 14.80 billion US dollars (13.70 percent), followed by East Kalimantan 12.83 billion US dollars (11.87 percent) and East Java 9.63 billion US dollars (8.91 percent)," concluded Edy.
