Pocket 103.5 Million US Dollars, Pertamina NRE Speeds Energy Transition Implementation

JAKARTA Pertamina NRE recorded revenue of 103.5 million US dollars in the first quarter of 2023. This number increased by 12 percent from the target set in early 2023.

Meanwhile, EBITDA and net profit consecutively reached US$78.3 million and US$31.3 million.

From the operational aspect, Pertamina NRE's electricity production in the First Quarter reached 1,185,279 MWh or 9 percent above the target with zero work accidents.

"This positive achievement cannot be separated from the hard work of the entire Pertamina NRE family and the support of stakeholders. And we not only prioritize financial and operational performance, but also HSSE. As an energy company, HSSE aspects are our priority," said Pertamina NRE Chief Executive Officer Dannif Danusaputro, quoted on Wednesday, May 10.

He explained that Pertamina NRE has a strategic role in achieving Pertamina's aspirations to achieve net zero emissions in 2060, namely through the development of a green energy business and a new business.

Not only in the power generation sector, Pertamina NRE also focuses on green energy in other sectors, such as green hydrogen, carbon trading, nature based solution (NBS), and batteries.

"The carbon trade initiative carried out by Pertamina NRE is currently focusing on the Pertamina group, where Pertamina NRE has signed a commitment with other Pertamina subholdings, such as Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), Pertamina International Refinery (KPI), and Patra Niaga," he explained.

Then last month Pertamina just signed a carbon trading agreement with Patra Niaga with a volume of 1.8 million tons of equivalent carbon emissions for a period of one year. The source of the offset for this initiative is the Lahendong Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) Unit 5 and 6.

"The carbon trade carried out by Pertamina NRE is an important milestone not only for Pertamina but also in Indonesia. This initiative is a concrete manifestation of Pertamina's commitment to decarbonizing," said Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development Fadli Rahman.

Another Milestone that is no less important is the clean hydrogen development initiative. One of the hydrogen initiatives carried out by Pertamina NRE is a collaboration with TEPCO where currently pre-feasibility studies have been completed.

This project is supported by NEDO, a Japanese national research and development agency that encourages technology development in order to build a sustainable community life.

Meanwhile, in the generating sector, Pertamina NRE is currently implementing a large-scale PLTS project in Rokan with the first stage with a capacity of 25 MW.

"Currently Pertamina NRE has completed the construction of 17 MW. We are targeting 25 MW to be completed in August 2023. PLTS Rokan is the largest PLTS with the largest capacity installed upstream of Indonesian oil and gas," said Pertamina Operations Director NRE Norman Ginting.

Meanwhile, the Java-1 Steam Gas Power Plant (PLTGU) has now gone through a smooth synchronization process with the PLN transmission network, both Unit 1 and Unit 2, and is in the process of commissioning. Norman said that it was targeted that the Java-1 PLTGU would reach the commercial operation date (COD) stage around Agustu and September.
