JAKARTA - Microsoft introduced a new feature on the Bing search engine and Microsoft Edge web browser, powered by artificial intelligence (AI). This new feature will be a true companion in exploring the web by providing better search results, complete answers, new chat experiences, and the ability to create content.
One of these new features is the updated Bing Image Creator, visual Stories and Knowledge Cards which are all powered by AI. Bing Image Creator allows users to create images using their own words to describe images they want to see. Users can generate writing and visual content in one place, directly from within the chat.
According to research, the human brain processes visual information about 60,000 times faster than text, so visual tools become a critical way for people to search, create, and understand information. Based on Bing data, images are one of the most search categories - losing only to public web searches. Historically, searches are limited to images already on the web. However, there are now almost no restrictions in terms of what can be searched for and created.
Bing Image Creator will be fully integrated into the Bing chat experience, which will be available in Creative Mode. Users can include image descriptions, provide additional contexts such as location or activity, and choose art style. "Image Creator will produce images from user imagination," Microsoft wrote in the company's blog. This feature is like being a creative friend who can help create visuals for a newsletter or as inspiration in redesigning living space.
In addition, Bing and Microsoft Edge are also equipped with updated visual Stories and Knowledge Cards. Visual Stories allow users to explore popular topics in an interesting visual form. While Knowledge Cards provide more detailed information about the topics they are looking for.
In developing this feature, Microsoft is working with their partner, OpenAI, to develop an advanced version of the DALL'E model powered by artificial intelligence. This new feature will be available on Microsoft Edge preview and Bing chat at the time of launch.
Microsoft has announced a new feature of Bing Image Creator which is integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) to produce images. This feature will be available on Microsoft Edge, making it the first and only browser with an AI-backed image maker. To use the Bing Image Creator on Edge, just click the Bing Image Creator icon on the Sidebar to create images or via Bing chat on Edge.
Microsoft maintains the principles of Respondible AI and Responsible AI Standard in developing and implementing AI systems responsibly. To reduce the potential for abuse of Image Creators, Microsoft is working closely with OpenAI partners, who are developing DALLE, to provide experiences that encourage the use of Image Creators responsibly.
Microsoft ensures that OpenAI's security, plus additional protection, has been included in the Image Creator. Microsoft also sets up controls aimed at limiting the creation of images that are dangerous or unsafe.
When a system detects potentially harmful images can be created by a prompt, the prompt is blocked and users are warned. Microsoft also explains that Image Creator images are generated by AI, and includes a modified Bing icon in the lower left corner of each image to help show that the image is created using Image Creator.
Microsoft continues to work closely with OpenAI to build, test, and review mitigation for their integration.
Since Bing was only available in the preview, Microsoft has tested the feature with people to get real-world feedback to improve the experience. People use Bing in some expected ways as well as some unexpected ways. Microsoft rolled out Bing Image Creator in stages with users previews before expanding it more widely.
Initially, the Image Creator would only be included in the Creative Mode of the Bing chat, and the goal was to make it available in the Balanced and Precise modes over time. Microsoft is also working on some sustainable optimizations for how the Image Creator works in multi-turn chats.
Microsoft believes that the best way to bring this technology to market is to test it carefully and openly, where everyone can provide feedback.
