JAKARTA - Luis Enrique was officially introduced as the new Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach, Wednesday, July 5, local time. PSG recruited the former Barcelona coach and the Spanish national team on a contract until 2025.

The 53-year-old coach replaced Christophe Galtier after his departure from the club was confirmed the day before.

Luis Enrique was introduced by PSG at a joint press conference with club president Nasser al-Khelaifi at their new training complex in Poissy, in the northwest of the French capital.

"I am delighted to join Paris to enjoy a new experience," Luis Enrique said in an official club statement quoted by AFP via Antara.

"It's great to meet new people, live in this city, learn new languages, and most importantly, train PSG," he continued.

The coach whose full name is Luis Enrique Martinez Garcia has been PSG's eighth coach since the French club was taken over by Qatar owners in 2011.

He will get the same task as the previous coaches, namely trying to win their first Champions League trophy in club history. However, Enrique certainly won't be easy to do, especially in the midst of rumors that they are in danger of losing their flagship striker Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe is reportedly reluctant to extend his contract which expires next year and he is currently associated with moving to Real Madrid.

PSG hopes Luis Enrique's arrival can transmit the mentality of the champion to his squad while playing in the Champions League. Enrique won the Champions League trophy while training Barcelona in 2015.
