Defeat Malaysia, Rankireddy/Shetty Win The First Title At The Indonesia Open 2023

JAKARTA - Indian men's doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty won their first title at the Indonesia Open 2023 after defeating Malaysian representatives Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik in the final round, with a score of 21-17, 21-18, at Istora Senayan Jakarta.

The first game took place with a fast pattern of play and both pairs were able to balance and turn off the ball alternately.

Chia/Soh had a 3-0 lead over the Indian pair, but Rankireddy/Shetty did not fall under pressure and began to collect numbers by numbers. Malaysian doubles continued to dominate the game until finally the position was balanced 7-7 and 9-9.

Ahead of the break, the Indian pair tried to damage the men's doubles momentum of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics bronze medal winner and won the first game interval 11-9.

After the interval, the Indian men's doubles, which is now ranked sixth in the world, did not provide a gap for Chia/Soh to collect points easily. Rankireddy/Shetty's dominance was unstoppable until they took the lead 15-11.

Chia/Soh are still trying to put up a fight, however, the Indian pair appeared calmer until they finally locked the first game 21-17 victory.

The second game was tight again with Rankireddy/Shetty who didn't want to let go of their confidence. Even though the points were very fierce, the Indian men's doubles got points quite easily until the second game interval they got with a score of 11-8.

Despite being depressed, the Malaysian doubles, who are now ranked third in the world, did not want to drag on and immediately rise up to reduce their gap in critical points such as when they were seven points adrift of opponents in the score 11-18 and when the Indian doubles hit matchpoint.

Unfortunately, this effort was not enough to stem Rankireddy/Shetty's attack which completed the second game with a tight score of 20-18.

With this achievement, it also marks Rankireddy/Shetty's first victory in the BWF Super 1000 tournament throughout the season.
