JAKARTA - Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Lalu Muhamad Iqbal highlighted cases of sexual harassment that befell dozens of female students in West Lombok Regency.

"Yes, the Governor has called me, asking for communication with the technical services, UPTD, and West Lombok Regency," said Head of the Mataram City Child Protection Agency (LPA) Joko Jumadi, in Mataram, Wednesday, April 23, as reported by Antara.

Joko told the governor he had explained the handling process, including communication steps on female students who were victims of sexual harassment, including protection for victims.

"We maintain the confidentiality of these victims. Meanwhile, we have met eight people," he said.

He also conveyed to the Governor of NTB that the problems that occurred in religious educational institutions were carried out by unscrupulous persons. So there is no need to carry the name of the boarding school.

"The person concerned (the perpetrator) has also been expelled from the Islamic boarding school," he added.

The Governor of NTB has ordered the Head of the UPTD for the Protection of Women and Children (PPA) Eny Chaerani to come down to help the victims. "I have asked the Head of UPTD to immediately coordinate with existing victims' protection institutions," said Iqbal.

The Governor of NTB also asked UPTD to move quickly and pro-actively cooperate with the West Lombok Regency Government to help the victims. "Give direct support, don't be too bureaucratic. I ask directly to provide assistance as best as possible," he said.

In assisting the victim, the Governor of NTB also asked the UPTD to maintain the confidentiality of the privacy of the female students who were victims, because of the victim's future.

"Please protect the victim (privacy) properly, prepare immediately for trauma healing," he added.
