JAKARTA - Along with the increasing number of passengers, especially during the Lebaran homecoming season, the Pasar Senen station manager, Jakarta has implemented various environmentally friendly steps to reduce the volume of waste generated.

Public Relations Manager of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 1 Jakarta, Ixfan Hendriwintoko, said that one of the strategies implemented was participation in the waste management program initiated by the Ministry of Environment and BPLH.

According to him, during the homecoming period, the volume of waste at the station can be doubled compared to normal days.

"We are trying to reduce waste accumulation by providing facilities that support a minimal waste lifestyle," said Ixfan when met at Pasar Senen Station, as quoted by ANTARA.

One of the innovations implemented is the provision of water stations or re-drinking water filling stations. Passengers are encouraged to bring their own drinking bottles (tumbler) so they don't need to buy single-use bottled water.

"Passengers can refill drinking water for free, just bring the tumbler. This also helps reduce plastic waste," he explained.

In the station area, there are now trash bins with three types of separation slots: organic, inorganic, and B3 waste (dangerous and toxic materials). This separation aims to make waste management more organized and environmentally friendly.

In addition, digitization of services is also part of efforts to protect the environment. The use of paper tickets is starting to be reduced by optimizing e-ticketing services through the Access by KAI application.

"Passengers who order tickets through the application no longer need to print physical tickets. Just show them e-tickets, or don't even need to show anything when they are registered in the facial recognition service," said Ixfan.

This face recognition technology allows passengers to pass through the door automatically without showing a ticket, as long as their data is registered and according to the scheduled departure.

Independent check-in facilities are also available in the incoming area of the platform. With the booking code, passengers can check-in without having to queue at the counter or print engine.

Not only focusing on environmentally friendly aspects, Pasar Senen Station also continues to improve in terms of comfort. The waiting room is now equipped with air conditioning, and access between platforms is facilitated through the installation of escalators.

"During the Lebaran season yesterday, the economic hall was not equipped with air conditioning. Now it is much more comfortable. Access from platform 1 to platform 3 and 4 also has escalators available, so there is no need to go up and down the manual stairs anymore," concluded Ixfan.
