13 Provinces Successfully Improved The Economy, Estimated Zero Percent Extreme Poverty Rate 2024

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for Community Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) is optimistic that it can reduce extreme poverty to zero percent by 2024. "We are optimistic that (the extreme poverty rate) will decrease to zero percent," said Deputy for Coordination for Social Welfare Improvement, Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture Nunung Nuryartono, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 24.

Nunung is optimistic about this, after data from the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) in March 2023 stated that there were 13 provinces that had extreme poverty rates approaching zero percent, previously there were only six provinces in September 2022. He revealed that the extreme poverty rate in Indonesia was 1.12 percent in March 2023, down about 0.62 percent from 1.74 percent in September 2022. He said the decline in extreme poverty was driven by the success of a number of poverty alleviation programs, which coordinated with a number of ministries and institutions. "Of course the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture ensures that this strategy can run well. We must confirm the synergy between the center and the regions," he said. He said that the success of this program was also driven by local government programs (Pemda) by implementing complementary programs.

According to him, a number of poverty alleviation programs are running effectively, because they are implemented based on appropriate data as a reference. In addition, he continued, this proves how the integration of programs and strategies of each party is well implemented in the field.

"This confirms that this effort has a significant impact on reducing the extreme poverty rate," he said. However, according to him, the efforts made by the government are not enough. Therefore, he invites all parties to work together in realizing Indonesia with zero percent extreme poverty in 2024.
