The high intensity rain that fell from Thursday July 6 to Friday July 7 caused the water upstream of the Heir River, Tegalrejo Village, Malang Regency to overflow and flood the surrounding area.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said that the flood disaster that occurred due to high-intensity rain had affected hundreds of families in Sitiarjo Village, Sumbermjing Wetan District, Malang Regency, East Java Province.

According to the Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of the Malang Regency BPBD, Sadono Irawan, the families affected by the flood disaster were scattered in nine hamlets in Sitiarjo Village.

"Overall in Sitiarjo Village, there are 799 families affected by the flood. The water discharge has begun to recede. Currently the weather is cloudy. We are still monitoring the development of the puddle discharge situation," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, July 8.

BPBD officers and other government officials also help the community clean up residential areas affected by the flood.

Sadono said that residents affected by the flood disaster currently need assistance with basic foodstuffs, medicines, clothing, as well as baby and toddler equipment.

"Then there are other urgent needs such as cleaning equipment, sleeping mats, blankets, as well as basic logistics materials and equipment to clean up materials due to flooding," he said.

In addition to hitting parts of the Sumbermjing Wetan sub-district, floods and landslides occurred in Tirtoyudo, Ampelgading, and Gedangan sub-districts.

BPBD Malang Regency is still recording the impact of natural disasters in these sub-districts.
