Vice President Visits Muqimus Sunnah Islamic Boarding School In South Sumatra

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin visited the Muqimus Sunnah Islamic Boarding School in Banyuasin, South Sumatra, to stay in touch with the kiai and hand over social assistance.

The Vice President discussed the role and responsibility of the ulama, including from a religious perspective to protect the people from deviant ideas, to protect the people from narrow and textual ways of thinking.

"Ulama is also responsible for protecting people from narrow and textual ways of thinking, but also not liberal. But (the way of thinking) is moderate, how do we build moderate Islam, this is the responsibility of the ulama," said the Vice President as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 7.

In addition, said the Vice President, ulama also have a national and state responsibility.

"Because there is a principle that we lead that hubbul wathan minal faith, love the country is part of faith, the consequence is that we must have responsibility for the problems of this nation, whoever is in power, whoever leads this nation, ulama must be part of protecting this country and this nation. I think that is a big responsibility, "he explained.

After the meeting with the kiai, the Vice President held Friday prayers at the Muqimus Sunnah Islamic Boarding School Hall, then handed over social assistance from the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) in the form of scholarships for 30 class XII students at the Muqimus Sunnah Islamic Boarding School.

The Santri scholarships given in 2023, each worth IDR 6 million for tutoring and registering at a favorite campus to continue studies at State Universities (PTN).
