JAKARTA - Chairman of the DPP Association of Retired Indonesian Armed Forces (Pepabri) General TNI Retired Agum Gumelar said his party and retired leaders from various organizations met President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

Agum explained that the arrival of retired organizations such as the Air Force Retired Association (PPAU), PPAL, PPAD, PPPolri and the Veterans Legion of the Republic of Indonesia (LVRI) intend to propose to improve their welfare to the government.

"We were accepted by the President and in this meeting, we reported about our efforts by Retired officials to ask the government to improve welfare for retired people," Agum said when met at the Jakarta Presidential Palace yard, reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 22.

Agum explained that his party and the Purnawirawan leadership are making a comprehensive and feasible proposal.

The proposal will be submitted to President Joko Widodo through the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres).

"We are making a comprehensive proposal, which is 'feasible', which we can realize that all of this has passed away to our country's financial coffers, so we will convey it to the President through Wantimpres," said Agum.

In addition to submitting an increase in welfare, Purnawirawan leaders emphasized that neutrality ahead of the 2024 General Election and Presidential Election was submitted to President Joko Widodo.

"So we convey to the President that the retired who are members of this organization, the first in the matter of the presidential election, elections, as an organization, as one institution we must be neutral," said Agum.

Nevertheless, Agum added that at the individual level, retired organizations provide freedom for their members to choose between existing choices.

The former Coordinating Minister for Politics, Social and Security emphasized that all retired organizations agreed that after the 2024 General Election and Presidential Election ended, this difference must be forgotten.

The retired organization, continued Agum, will respect whatever results become a democratic decision.
