JAKARTA - The National Police has issued a new regulation regarding the optimization of traffic violations using the Electronic Traffic Low Enforcement (ETLE) and the prohibition of carrying out stationary action or raids.

Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Sandi Nugroho said the regulation was contained in a Telegram Letter numbered: ST/1044/V/HUK.6.2/2023 dated May 16, 2023 signed by the Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) of the National Police Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi addressed to traffic police officers (Polantas).

"The Traffic Directors are to order the ranks not to take action against traffic violations by stationary or raids," said Inspector General Sandi as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 19.

The regulation orders Polantas to optimize the prosecution of traffic violations in a humane manner by utilizing ETLE in their respective regions.

The regulation also states a prohibition on taking action against traffic violations by stationary or raids.

Then, the Dirlantas ranks were also asked to increase synergy and collaboration with local governments as well as relevant stakeholders for the procurement of ETLE equipment systems in their respective regions.

The regulation also explains the forms of violations that have not been included in the ETLE enforcement system and traffic violations that have the potential to cause high fatality traffic accidents, such as underage driving, riding more than two people, and using mobile phones while driving.

Furthermore, breaking through the red light (traffic light), not wearing a helmet, going against the current, exceeding the speed limit, driving under the influence of alcohol, vehicle equipment not according to standards and using a fake number plate, as well as overloaded and over-dimensional vehicles, was carried out by a special team that already had a warrant and was certified by traffic violation enforcement officers.

"This rule is issued to provide optimal services to the community and minimize violations committed by members while in the field," said Sandi.

If in the practice of traffic prosecution there are members in the field who commit violations and irregularities, strict sanctions will be given ranging from disciplinary sanctions, code of ethics sanctions to criminal sanctions.

"The Dirlantas ranks are also asked to socialize how to settle electronic ticketing or ETLE which makes it easier for the community," said Sandi.
