JAKARTA - The launch of satellites to be carried out by North Korea (North Korea) will violate various international sanctions prohibiting the use of any ballistic missile technology by the country, a US State Department spokesman said on Wednesday (17/5).
Vedant Patel, deputy spokesman for the US Department of Foreign Affairs, also said that it would take the necessary steps to hold North Korea accountable if Pyongyang decided to continue the launch they were planning.
"Every launch carried out by the DPRK using ballistic missile technology will also include the SLV (space launch vehicle) used to launch satellites into space," the spokesman said, as reported by Antara.
"And it will violate various UN Security Council resolutions," he said further at a daily press conference when asked if the US detected any indications of a launch soon.
The DPRK stands for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea's official name.
North Korean state media reported on Wednesday that leader Kim Jong-un examined what the country claims to be military reconnaissance satellites and gave permission for further action plans, adding that the satellite was ready to be mounted on a rocket.
"We have strongly urged the DPRK not to carry out threatening activities and called on Pyongyang to engage in serious and sustainable diplomacy," said Patel.

"We have also emphasized our unshakable commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, as well as seeking dialogue with Pyongyang without preconditions," he added.
The spokesman said the US would seek to hold North Korea accountable, insisting that the country has a number of means to do so.
"In terms of action, we certainly continue to have the means to hold the DPRK accountable. You have seen us take those steps, and we will continue to do so," he said at the press conference.
