AGAM - A resident died from a landslide in the Palupuh District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, this morning.
The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Agam Regency, Bambang Warsito, said the victim named Fitriati (55) was trapped in the house when the landslide occurred.
"The victim was trapped, then evacuated by local residents and officers. The victim was dragged by the avalanche material until he was locked in the bathroom," Bambang said as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 3.
The victim's house is in Jorong Muaro Batu Gadang, Nagari Koto Rantang, Palupuh District. The victim died on the way to the hospital.
Bambang said the BPBD coordinated with the sub-district and nagari government officials in dealing with the impact of landslides in the area on the West-Riau Sumatra route.
He appealed to residents to be aware of the possibility of natural disasters when heavy rains have fallen for a long time.
