Child Death In Accident During Lebaran Homecoming Must Be A Serious Attention To The Government And Society

JAKARTA - Child mortality on the street is involved in accidents when going home increases. The Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) asked the government and the entire community to pay attention to child safety when planning Eid homecoming.

"This is very important because apparently, the number of deaths (in children, ed.) due to accidents is significant," said IDAI Piprim Central Management Chairman Basarah Yanuarso, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 4.

He stated that one of the factors that causes the mortality rate in children continues to increase significantly in the form of accidents when driving on the road.

When pediatricians try to continue to care for each child through routine growth and development monitoring, immunization, and good nutrition improvement, he assesses that everything will be in vain if security during the trip is not noticed.

The problem, he said, is that accidents currently occur a lot in children, especially in their teens. The trend of deaths due to accidents monitored continues to rise in adolescents aged 15-19 years in the period 2018-2020, it is necessary to get serious attention, both from the government and the public.

In this case, one of the reasons is that there are teenagers who are not yet legally old, who have been given permission to drive a motorized vehicle without any signal or good safety instructions.

"Don't let this become a significant contributor to the mortality of our children, especially teenagers. This is also related to going home, including in the village. If you want the Lebaran friendship, you actually have an accident, this will actually be a disaster for yourself because of your own actions because there is no safety problem," said Piprim.

Therefore, he asked the cooperation of each family member to ensure in advance every form of safety in children, such as good health conditions and check every preparation on the trip.

Thus, every child can avoid accidents, and continue to develop more optimally.

For the government, Piprim hopes that it can further sharpen monitoring related to this matter with IDAI, so that it can find definite solutions to clear problems.

"This can be passed down by mortality with massive efforts, with the help of the government, the mass media and the community as well, so that our children can grow and develop optimally and become a future superior generation," he said.

IDAI Child Protection Task Force member Hari Wahyu Nugroho said tightening security for children can be done by preparing driving equipment, such as helmets, SNI, jackets, driver's shoes to belts for four-wheeled riders.

He said it was important to ensure that the vehicles used were in accordance with standards without modifications that violated driving safety standards, such as light components, exhausts, and horns that could potentially cause traffic violations.

For parents, he asked not to drive under the influence of alcohol and illegal drugs such as Napza, while for teenagers who drive must be ensured to have driving legality so that they understand and obey traffic signs.

"Please for children or parents when driving continue to use personal protective equipment according to applicable health protocols. Road injury, including among the 15 causes of global disabilities at the age of children and adolescents," he said.
