Prosecutors Read Claims: There Is Nothing Easing For Teddy Minahasa

JAKARTA - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) emphasized that there was nothing mitigating in the demand for the death penalty against the former West Sumatra Police Chief Teddy Minahasa in a drug trafficking case.

"There are no mitigating factors," said Public Prosecutor Iwan Ginting, while reading out the indictment at the trial at the West Jakarta District Court, Thursday, March 30, which was confiscated by Antara.

Iwan emphasized that the aggravating factors for the defendant Teddy Minahasa, including Teddy, were considered to be enjoying the benefits of selling methamphetamine.

In addition, Teddy also did not admit all his actions related to the sale of methamphetamine as evidence.

Teddy is also considered not to support the government's program in eradicating drug trafficking.

"The defendant's actions have undermined public trust in the Indonesian National Police institution, which is a member of approximately 400,000 personnel," explained the Prosecutor.

Previously, the Public Prosecutor charged Teddy Minahasa with the death penalty in reading the demands at the West Jakarta District Court.

Previously, Polda Metro Jaya stated that Teddy Minahasa had ordered his subordinates to set aside evidence of methamphetamine from the results of the disclosure of the case to be circulated.

It all started when the Bukittinggi Police destroyed 40 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine as caught.

At that time, Teddy allegedly ordered Doddy as the Head of the Bukit Tinggi Police to exchange five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine for tawas.

Teddy then ordered Doddy to bring the methamphetamine to Jakarta to be sold to a witness named Anita alias Linda.

After the methamphetamine arrived in Jakarta, Linda was tasked with randomly selling the illicit goods through the former Kalibaru Police Chief, Kasranto. Linda also received some money from the sale of the methamphetamine.

The embezzlement of drug evidence was finally uncovered by a series of disclosures of narcotics cases by the Central Jakarta Metro Police and Polda Metro Jaya.

A total of 1.7 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine has been circulated. While the remaining 3.3 kilograms were confiscated by officers.

The articles suspected of Teddy, namely Articles 112, 114 and 132 and Article 55 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with a maximum threat of the death penalty and a minimum of 20 years in prison.
