ASEAN Parliament Forum Begins The Day After Tomorrow, Puan Maharani: AIPA Has A Role In Lowering Geopolitical Tension In ASEAN

JAKARTA - The parliamentary forum for countries throughout Southeast Asia, the 44th ASEAN Interparlementary Assembly (AIPA) in 2023 will start on Saturday, August 5 to Friday, August 11, 2023. The DPR will host the AIPA 2023 general assembly following Indonesia's chairmanship at the ASEAN Summit. Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, stated that the AIPA general assembly has many strategic roles, including helping to reduce geopolitical tension in the ASEAN region.

"Because parliament also contributes to helping the Government in efforts to reduce geopolitical tensions or tensions due to competition in Southeast Asia," said Puan in her statement, Thursday, August 3.

In this forum, the DPR carries the theme Responsive Parliaments for A Stable and Prosperous ASEAN or Responsive Parliament for ASEAN Stable and Prosperous at the 44th AIPA General Assembly.

Puan said the theme emphasized the important role of parliament in overcoming various global challenges, in creating ASEAN that is stable and prosperous.

"Of course, stability in the region is included in it. Especially in the midst of increasing geopolitical tensions in Southeast Asia. AIPA also contributes to maintaining ASEAN's unity," said Puan.

According to Puan, solidity of Southeast Asian countries is needed in dealing with various geopolitical problems. Parliament can play a role in maintaining stability in the Southeast Asia region. Because stability and peace can occur, one of which is through parliamentary diplomacy.

"Stability is a prerequisite for economic development and growth in Southeast Asia. So the AIPA Session can be an event on how Parliament in every ASEAN country shares its views in determining future directions for the welfare of the Southeast Asian people," said Puan.

"With this trust, countries in ASEAN and even around the world will increasingly take into account Indonesia as a potential and reliable country to cooperate in various fields. This is a credit point for the Indonesian nation to be trusted at the global level," he continued.

It is known that the Parliamentary delegation from various countries in Southeast Asia is known to start arriving in Indonesia Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10.00 WIB. The delegation came from Brunnei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

As President of AIPA 2023 and leader of the 44th AIPA General Assembly, Puan will hold various bilateral meetings with the Speaker of the Parliament of friendly countries. Bilateral meetings were held on the sidelines of the AIPA trial.

Puan is also scheduled to meet the Speaker of the Vietnam Parliament Vuong Dinh Hue tomorrow, Friday, August 4, 2023. The bilateral meeting will be held at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan Jakarta.

During the bilateral meeting, Puan and Vuong Dinh Hue will carry out the signing of a cooperation agreement (MoU) between the Indonesian Parliament-Vietnam.
