After 47 Years Of Ford Fiesta Production, It Is Certain That It Will End
JAKARTA - Ford has decided to stop production of Ford Fiesta, one of the best-selling Ford models in the world after being produced for 47 years. On July 7, Ford Fiesta will last exit the assembly line at Cologne, Germany.
Ford's official reason for stopping the production of this car was as reported by Autocar late last year, as the company needed space at the Cologne assembly plant to produce a new Ford Explorer EV, which is only aimed at the European market.
The latest generation of Fiesta will not be marketed in the United States and several other countries where larger cars are controlling the market.
The last two Ford Fiesta produced will be stored for Ford's historical collection. One will remain in Cologne, while the others will be stored in England, which has always been a big market for this car.
Fiesta has consistently been one of the best-selling cars in the UK since its launch in 1976 and holds the top spot between 2009 and 2020 - the longest record in years in a row.
However, in 2021, Fiesta is out of top 10 sales as the Covid-19 pandemic hit the supply chain. Many manufacturers including Ford were forced to shift their spare parts stock from underprivileged small cars to more popular crossovers and SUVs.
Previously, the sixth generation of Fiesta was also quite well-selling in the United States because of the ST performance variant, which went on sale in America in 2013. With a three-cylinder 1.6 liter engine, ST produces impressive 180 dk of power, which feels right for its car which weighs about 1,178 kg. The sixth generation of Fiesta is equipped with a manual transmission of six accelerations and is produced in Mexico until 2017.
Fiesta is one of several Ford models whose production has been stopped as the brand prepares for full-scale electrification. For MPV S-Max and Galaxy, the last production was April 2023, and Focus' hatchback production also ended in 2025.
Ford previously said it would only sell EVs in European territory starting in 2030 and is targeting to sell 600,000 electric cars annually by 2026 as it seeks to become a special EV brand in Europe by the end of the decade.
