The Public Is Asked To Be Aware Of The Potential For Increasing Wind Speeds In Bali

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region III Denpasar asked the public to be aware of the potential for an increase in wind speed in Bali, which is estimated to reach 21 knots or 40 kilometers per hour on 18-20 May 2023.

"If it's below about 20 knots, it's still safe," said Head of the BMKG Service Sub-Coordinator for Region III Denpasar Tirta Wijaya, quoted from Antara, Thursday, May 18.

Based on BMKG analysis, the wind is expected to blow from the east-southeast with the weather in general, it is predicted that it will be cloudy and there is the potential for uneven light rain in the central part of Bali.

BMKG observed an increase in wind speed in the Gunung Agung area in Karangasem Regency on May 18, 2023, estimated at 10-20 kilometers per hour, then on May 19-20 it is estimated to increase to 30 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile, the potential wind speed of up to 40 kilometers per hour is expected to occur in Tabanan Regency, namely in Kerambitan, Selemadeg.

Klungkung Regency in Nusa Penida, then in Badung Regency in Kuta and South Kuta, then in Karangasem Regency in Amlapura, Abang and Kubu.

Meanwhile, Denpasar has the potential to be in East Denpasar and South Denpasar.

BMKG noted that in the Jembrana Regency, wind speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour are expected to occur in all sub-districts, namely Melaya, Negara, Mendoyo, and Pekutat.

Meanwhile, the sea wave height in southern Bali is estimated to be up to 3.5 meters, the Bali Strait and the Lombok Strait up to three meters.

The BMKG explained that the weather conditions were caused by sea level temperatures in the Bali region ranging from 28-30 degrees Celsius.

In addition, the wet air mass is concentrated from the surface layer to a layer of 850 millibars or 1,500 meters.

The BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center mentioned wind conditions and sea waves that are at high risk of sailing safety, namely to fishing boats if the wind speed is more than 15 knots and the wave height is above 1.25 meters.

The barge if the wind speed is more than 16 knots and the wave height is above 1.5 meters, the ferry if the wind speed is more than 21 knots and the wave height is above 2.5 meters.
