Kadri Mohamad: Once Can Sing Dewa 19 Without Ahmad Dhani's Approval, As Long As...
JAKARTA - Singer and advocate, Kadri Mohamad said Once Mekel could sing Dewa 19 songs without Ahmad Dhani's approval.
He conveyed this in an interview with Candra Darusman, Once Mekel, Ahmad Dhani, and Azizah Hanum on the Liputan 6 YouTube channel on Wednesday night.
Kadri said, Article 23 of the Copyright Law protects performers, where is Once in this matter.
"I think this has been completed, there are general rules and specialist rules. Because there is a Copyright Law that protects creators, copyright holders, and users. Article 23 protects the performers. It sounds that he can sing the song without the approval as long as he pays," said Kadri.
"It means that as a musician I can sing Ahmad Dhani's song, as long as I pay to WAMI (Indonesian Music Authority). If I can be like that, Once should also be able to. Beyond ethical issues," he continued.
So, Kadri added, this problem is already in the realm of ethics and must be resolved by Ahmad Dhani and Once Mekel.
"If this ethics is no longer talking about law. So, the problem is that there is a competition, it turns out that after the singer leaves. This must be resolved by Ahmad Dhani and Once," he explained.
"So, this is no longer a legal issue. Because of the shortcomings of the Copyright Law. Please if you want to change it. This is just a matter of Once my friend ethically discussing the issue," he concluded.
