Dispute Over Positions At KPK

The case of a dispute over positions between the KPK and the National Police on the dismissal of Brigadier General Endar Priantoro from his position as Director of Investigation at the KPK has recently become a public concern.

It cannot be denied that this incident raises questions about the professionalism and independence of the two institutions in eradicating corruption.

As institutions that have the same task in eradicating corruption, the KPK and Polri should be able to work well together and support each other. However, the occurrence of disputes between the two institutions has raised public concern about the condition of eradicating corruption in Indonesia.

The noise at the KPK has also received scrutiny from the government. The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security (Menko Polhukam), Mahfud MD emphasized that the government did not interfere in the internal affairs of the KPK and Polri, but requested that the two institutions resolve the problem in accordance with applicable regulations.

Not only the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also firmly stated that the transfer would not cause a stir. President Jokowi emphasized that every policy in each institution must have a foundation of regulations and SOPs that apply and must be obeyed. The president asked that it be followed.

To note, the polemic on the dismissal of Brigadier General Endar Priantoro from the position of Director of Investigations at the KPK began after KPK Chairman Firli sent a letter to the Indonesian National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, regarding the proposed promotion. At that time, Firli wanted Endar, together with the Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK, Inspector General Karyoto, who came from the Bhayangkara Corps, to get a promotion.

Furthermore, the National Police only promoted Karyoto as Metro Jaya Police Chief. Meanwhile, Brigadier General Endar was asked to return to serve as Director of Investigations at the Corruption Eradication Committee due to limited positions. However, the KPK refused to hire Endar again. The reason was that his term of office had ended as of March 31 and there was no proposal for an extension of the term of office.

The case of the dismissal of Brigadier General Endar Priantoro from his position as Director of Investigation at the KPK is still ongoing. However, many parties and the public hope that this problem can be resolved properly and not damage the image of law enforcement agencies in Indonesia.

Many parties also hope that the two institutions can resolve this dispute in a better way and do not involve sectoral egos. Because, if this dispute continues, this has the potential to reduce the credibility and public trust in law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, it is hoped that concrete and immediate steps will be taken by the relevant parties, both the government, the Corruption Eradication Commission, and the National Police, to resolve this dispute completely and produce a satisfactory solution for all parties. Don't let it drag on.

Instead of disputing over positions, it is better for the National Police and the KPK to take care of bigger matters that are more important and drain more energy. Moreover, President Jokowi has said. Don't make a scene. Follow the rules.
