DJKI Embraces A Number Of Parties To Discuss Royalty Of Songs And Music
JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in collaboration with the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) has embraced a number of parties to sit down together to discuss song royalties and/music.
"This discussion involves representatives of attorneys at the Collective Management Institute (LMK), commissioners and supervisory boards of LMKN, attorneys and others. We agree that various royalty problems can be communicated openly," said LMKN Chairman Dharma Oratmangun after a public discussion on the governance of song royalties and/music, Thursday, quoted by Antara.
Dharma said the discussion aims to provide an understanding to the public regarding royalty governance as well as to socialize the rules that have been determined and have been running.
"From the discussion earlier, we still found that there are several things that need equalization of perceptions and improvements for the future. We will also try to propose a limited change in the law on Copyright in Indonesia," said Dharma.
On this occasion, Dharma hoped that all parties would join hands to socialize legal compliance using songs in the commercial realm to all stakeholders.
"Commercial use of songs for both mechanical and performing rights is mandatory to pay royalties. The payment mechanism has been regulated in the legislation system. So, let's be heartened and give art actors the opportunity to work and be appreciated for giving birth to great maestros," he explained. Band Supervisor Dewa 19, Ahmad Dhani, who was also present at the discussion, welcomed LMKN's efforts to present an Online Lisibility Administration System that can be accessed through www.mknlisence.id.
He hopes that no more event organizers (EO) will carry out music performance activities without permission from the authorities to issue a license certificate, namely LMK.
"Actually, EO, who held the show without a permit, has violated the law. But we want to emphasize and disseminate it to entertainment business actors, that without a certificate from LMK means EO has violated the Copyright law and can be reported to the police," he explained.
He also said that now the licensing process for obtaining a license certificate is easier because online systems allow every EO from anywhere to register its activities.
"This is as we expected because in Malaysia or Singapore, the system is like that. Alhamdulillah, Indonesia has now become part of the world system. We also hope that the police will make this a condition for permission," said Dhani.
