Yogyakarta Giwangan Terminal Holds Ramp Check, Presses Accident Risks In Facing The 2023 Eid Homecoming Moment

YOGYAKARTA - A number of buses at Giwangan Terminal DI Yogyakarta undergo ramp checks to ensure the condition of the vehicle is roadworthy. This effort is to provide a sense of security for people who use buses for Eid Al-Fitr 2023 homecoming.

"The main goal of this activity is to ensure that the condition of the bus is roadworthy so that passengers feel safe and comfortable and safe to get to their destination," said Head of the Yogyakarta City Transportation Service Agus Arief in Yogyakarta, Tuesday, April 4, as reported by Antara.

According to Agus, checking the feasibility of the bus condition is not only carried out before Lebaran but must be carried out regularly by the entire bus fleet every six months.

"For today's activity, we want to make sure again that the bus that operates is really roadworthy. Meet all the required requirements," he said.

These requirements include administrative completeness in the form of vehicle kir test results, STNK and others, as well as complete driver administration such as SIM.

"We also do direct checks. For example, for lights, brakes, wipers, sein lights, and others," he said.

Based on the results of the random inspection, Agus said, all buses that entered Yogyakarta's Giwangan Terminal were roadworthy.

"We also provide education to drivers and bus crew to always prioritize travel safety, especially later when serving passengers during the Eid transportation period because the number of passengers increases and the road conditions get denser," he said.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Yogyakarta Giwangan Terminal Service Unit, Bekti Zunanta, said that apart from ramp checks for regular fleets, the terminal has also ramp checked for tourism buses that will become spare buses for Eid transportation.

"Yesterday, we received a request from Organda as the manager of the tourism bus to ramp check so that buses can be operated during the Eid holiday," he said.

The number of tourism buses that have ramp checked at Giwangan Terminal is recorded at 36 fleets and it is possible that it will continue to grow.

"During this year's Eid holiday, the number of passengers is estimated to increase by 40 percent compared to last year. The increase is quite significant," he said.

The increase in the number of passengers was due to a number of factors such as the Eid holiday which was quite long and the increasing number of buses from the free homecoming program.

The number of free homecoming program buses from the Ministry of Transportation that will enter Giwangan Terminal this year has reached 60 units, an increase compared to last year's 35 units, and from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government as many as 35 units increased compared to last year's 21 units.

"Regular bus tickets have run out until April 21. Of course, support from tourism buses as spare buses is needed to be able to meet passenger needs," he said.

The peak of the homecoming flow at Giwangan Yogyakarta Terminal is estimated to occur on April 21 with around 30,000 passengers.
