The Old Town Group Thief Gang Takes Action When Malls Close

JAKARTA - Two thieves with dozens of clothes, shoes and cosmetics were secured by the Tambora Police. From the hands of the perpetrators, 38 shirts, 24 trousers, a number of shoes and cosmetics were confiscated.

The two suspects are known to have the initials IA (29) and AS (25) were found stealing at a mall in the Tambora area, West Jakarta. In the action, IA and AS acted with their friend R (DPO).

Tambora Police Chief, Kompol Putra Pratama explained, the modus operandi of the perpetrators to steal was to hide inside the mall until the mall closed and then carried out the theft.

"There were three perpetrators, two perpetrators were arrested and one perpetrator is still being chased," said Kompol Putra when confirmed, Monday, April 3.

The incident began when the two perpetrators came to the mall in the afternoon. Then they hid in a tarp of clothes piled up in the tenant corridor until the mall closed.

Kompol Putra explained that the theft incident began when the US and friends were gathered under the hanging of the Kota Tua area, West Jakarta to plan the theft. Then the three of them walked to the location of the theft target to carry out the action.

"The perpetrator's motive is to seek capital for Eid homecoming to Kampung halaman. From this motive, there are intentions and agreements to commit theft at one of the Malls in Tambora," he said.

In the action, these perpetrators hid on the sidelines of a shirt covered with tarpaulin inside the mall so that it would not be visible. When the situation is safe, the three divide the task of committing theft.

"Then when the situation was safe and around it was quiet, the perpetrators and their colleagues stole a number of clothes, several pairs of shoes and cosmetics," he said.

The three perpetrators then collected the stolen goods into a large suitcase which was also taken from the scene. After that, they scattered to leave the mall. But unfortunately, while trying to leave, the IA and AS were caught by mall security officers who were on patrol.

When he came out, the security mall officers were on patrol. (Then) eating the perpetrator and his partner, on suspicion of being the perpetrators of the crime. When interrogated, the perpetrators admitted that they had stolen goods," he said.
