JAKARTA - Recently, digital ecosystem stakeholders held a Gigacity Summit in Surakarta entitled Accelerated Gigacity as the Realization Runway for the Smart City of Indonesia Vision 2030 and 2045.

Attended by the Ministry of Communication and Information, the Association of Indonesian Internet Service Providers (APJII), the Indonesian Telematics Society (MASTEL), representatives of technology vendors, operators, and also academics, this event is expected to be a forum to accelerate the success of digital transformation towards Indonesia Gold 2045.

Previously, Kominfo had launched the Vision of Indonesia Digital 2045 (VID2045) which is a long-term vision towards 100 years of Free Indonesia.

The development of smart cities supported by high-speed internet is one of the important agendas of VID2045.

"Therefore, the initiatives of MASTEL, Huawei, and Telkomsel in Solo Technopark can be an example for other cities to implement the concept of Gigacity," said Inspector General of the Ministry of Communication and Information Arief Tri Hardiyanto as quoted on Sunday, December 24.

Gigacity itself plays a role in increasing internet speed, both mobile and fixed broadband in urban areas that provide energy for various activities in commercial, office, and residential areas.

"Kominfo hopes that the even distribution of quality high-speed broadbands will become a strong foundation for digital transformation, support a digital ecosystem that prospers the community, educate the nation and create various opportunities for digital innovation in order to achieve Indonesia Gold 2045," Arief added.

Meanwhile, Sarwoto Atmosutarno, Chairman of MASTEL, said that the Gigacity Summit is a momentum for stakeholders to jointly discuss concrete steps in accelerating high-speed internet penetration.

Moreover, this event also held a panel discussion discussing the benefits, opportunities, and challenges of the implementation of Gigacity in Indonesia, by presenting Telkomsel and XL Axiata, Huawei Indonesia, MASTEL, APJII, and the Ministry of Communication and Information.

From this discussion, it can be concluded that the implementation of Gigacity provides many benefits for Indonesia's progress.

In addition, digital ecosystem stakeholders need to work together to create equal internet access that is able to reach all Indonesian people.
