JAKARTA - After years of launch, the application of the Flipboard digital magazine brought social media into its platform. The Flipboard curator can now publish original content into their magazine, to engage with their readers in conversations.
Dubbed the Notes feature, curators can now do more than just sharing articles and other information, they can post text records, include uploaded images or links, and they can even call users with the @ icon to reach outside their own community.
"It's like doing regular posts on Twitter or Facebook, but it's a magazine. So it's like posting to the microcommunity," said Flipboard co-founder and CEO Mike McCue.
"This allows people who care about something, who follow this magazine or contribute to the magazine, to be able to talk to each other, communicate and build stronger community feelings," he added.
The Notes feature has a colorful blue background to make it stand out and can be liked, commented on, shared, or reversed to other magazines.
The curator can write notes without worrying about character boundaries. The Flipboard Notes feature is designed to make it more like a Facebook post.
They can be used to write magazine introductions, similar to editor notes, or to ask community questions, and answer reader questions, among others.
This new feature was first launched on desktop, with Android and iOS set to follow in January 2023. Launching TechCrunch, Wednesday, December 14, Flipboard isn't the only publishing platform targeting Twitter users in recent days.
Substack also announced its own discussion feature last November called Substack Chat, which has a similar goal of connecting creators and readers in community conversations.
But in the Flipboard case, the goal is possible to get a better reach by adding social elements.
Along with this launch, Flipboard added a new Community tab in the app next to the For You feed to showcase the best magazines and curators.
