JAKARTA - A car brand from China continues to storm the Indonesian automotive market, most recently there is the GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., which will bring two models at once to the Indonesian market.

In collaboration with Indomobil Group to distribute GAC Aion electric cars in Indonesia, there will be four models brought, including two first models, namely GAC Aion Y Plus and Hyper HT.

"The first model to be brought in Indonesia is Aion Plus and the HT Hyper is already popular," said PT Indomobil Energi Baru CEO Andry Ciu, to the media crew during the signing ceremony at Indomobil Tower, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 2.

He further said that one of the models mentioned above will be launched at the 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).

"One of them will be launched at GIIAS and the other unit will be introduced first for pre-order in June, but it depends on the schedule to bring the car in," he added.

There is a reason why these two models are the options to be imported in Indonesia, according to him, the SUV segment is the largest market today.

"In Indonesia, the largest market is in the SUV segment, if we are to fulfill it in that segment," he explained.

Not only presenting cars in Indonesia, together with the electric car Indomobil from China will also build factories in the country, to be precise at the end of 2024.

"GAC brings something different in Indonesia, sees that Indonesia as a very strong economic base, and hopes that in the future it will use (Indonesia) as a basis for export," said Managing Director of GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd Mr. Gu Hui Nan.

As is known, GAC Aion accelerated the implementation of globalization strategies in 2023 and has now entered the ASEAN market such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. In addition, GAC Aion has also invested and built its first foreign manufacturing base in Thailand.

Currently, GAC Aion will start providing new energy products that are more reliable, intelligent and high-tech for Indonesia. GAC Aion's electric vehicle presents a new, high-quality energy mobility experience and can encourage the development of the new energy vehicle industry in Indonesia.

In addition to having the fourth largest population in the world, Indonesia has an automotive market and a high economic level. The rich mineral resources and industrial policies that support environmentally friendly vehicles are one of the reasons Indonesia is the basis for production after Thailand.
