Similar To Indonesia, BYD Expands To South Korea By Signing Three Models At The Same Time

JAKARTA - The electric car race from China, namely BYD, continues to expand globally, now entering the South Korean market with three models at once.

Quoting from the ArenaEV page, Tuesday, February 13, the three models in question are Dolphin, Atto 3 and Seal. This means the same as those presented in Indonesia at the beginning of last year.

"The Shenzhen-based Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer is scheduled to have a meeting with the Korean Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy next month to obtain a license to sell electric cars in Korea," said one person familiar with the matter.

As is known, to sell electric models in Korea, foreign car manufacturers need to get environmental certification and safety for their driving range, energy efficiency, and vehicle battery safety, as well as undergo a feasibility review for state electric vehicle subsidies.

"The process usually takes about two to three months and if everything goes according to plan, BYD will likely sell its passenger electric vehicle model in Korea in the first half of this year," said one source.

However, from the three models above BYD Atto 3 became the first electric car to greet the South Korean market. It is hoped that it can compete with Hyundai Kona Electric, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia Niro EV and Kia EV6.

Talking about BYD Atto 3 is indeed BYD's first and best-selling global model. Last year, the company sold more than 100,000 units of the model outside China, accounting for about 40 percent of BYD's total global electric vehicle sales of 242,759 units.

After Atto 3, BYD Dolphin has been registered to arrive in South Korea immediately and followed by a Seal Sedan of electricity that has wild power.
