JAKARTA - Minister of National Development Planning (PPN/Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa asked national sports to receive great financial support to improve achievements.

This was conveyed by Suharso while attending the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC) Membership Meeting and Extraordinary Congress at the Fairmont Hotel, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, March 8, 2024, at noon WIB.

"Regarding funding, I agree that it requires great attention to sports. All countries in the world do it, why don't we. It is impossible for people to be great without the support of the government," he said.

Suharso explained that the injection of funds for sports needs to be done because the sector can be relied on to promote and show Indonesia's skills.

Therefore, he asked the federations in the future to make detailed planning regarding the targets to be achieved and not to apply for a budget suddenly again.

"The most important thing is the planning details. That's what we often don't have. We only have it when there is an event. If there is an event, suddenly a proposal is submitted. I don't think that's how it works," he said.

The government previously poured funds of approximately IDR 117 billion to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics in the middle of this year.

The total funds provided for the Olympics were more than Rp. 81 billion to prepare for 13 sports. Meanwhile, for the Paralympics, the funds provided amounted to Rp36 billion for 10 sports.

Currently, Indonesia has passed 19 athletes to the second most popular event in the world. There are seven athletes who passed the Olympics, while there are 12.
