JAKARTA - Investment cooperation between Indonesia and the Philippines continues to be strengthened by the governments of the two countries. This time, the Indonesian government opened the door for the Philippines to join investment in the energy sector, especially nickel management in the country.

As is known, Indonesia is indeed one of the largest nickel producing countries in the world. Based on the 2020 Nickel Booklet, Indonesia's nickel reserves reached 4.5 billion tons.

This cooperation opportunity was conveyed by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir through his official Instagram account @erick.thohir, quoted on Thursday, January 11.

I and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce met with the Philippine Minister of Trade, Alfredo E Pascual. We open up opportunities for cooperation with the Philippines in managing energy. Especially, nickel," wrote Erick.

According to Erick, downstream nickel will provide great benefits for the Indonesian economy and the Philippines. Therefore, these investments need to be boosted.

"Nickel can be one of the economic powers in each country. We want the natural wealth of our country to really be used for the welfare of the community," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir also accompanied President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on a working visit to three countries, namely the Philippines, Vietnam, and Brunei Darussalam this week.

This was conveyed by Erick through his personal Instagram social media account @erick.thohir quoted on Wednesday, January 10.

"For the next week, I accompanied Mr. President Jokowi to carry out a working visit to the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam," he wrote.

Erick also revealed the purpose of Jokowi's working visit. One of them is to discuss strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and the three countries.

"There are a number of agendas that we are doing to strengthen trade cooperation and investment from these three ASEAN countries. Hopefully everything will be launched and return to Indonesia with good news," wrote Erick again.
