JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy stated that the value of revenue from the game industry or game applications that developed in Indonesia reached IDR 25 trillion during 2022 which was considered to have the opportunity to grow the domestic economy.

"This national game market is IDR 25 trillion in 2022," said Director of Game, Television and Radio Applications at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Iman Santosa during the Netas program to improve HR Quality in the Game Sub-Sector in Cipanas, Garut Regency, West Java, quoted from Antara, Saturday, October 14.

He said the game industry in Indonesia was quite profitable, with the revenue figure recorded at Rp25 trillion in money spent by game players.

However, the income from the game industry, he said, was 99.5 percent flowing abroad, which had been the provider of the game application, while revenue for domestic game industry players was recorded at only 0.5 percent.

The potential for domestic online game users, he said, is that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy seeks to take this potential by encouraging game creative industry players to make more games in order to attract these incomes.

"How to socialize this game to develop the local game industry, so that it can enter the market, enlarge national games, because the industry is very large," he said.

He conveyed that in an effort to take advantage of the potential of the game's creative industry, the government is currently making a Presidential Regulation on the Acceleration of National Game Industry Development which is expected to be implemented in 2024.

The existence of the Presidential Decree, he said, is because it has economic value that can contribute to foreign exchange to improve the national economy, then raises local cultural values that need to be published more widely.

"We want to take it up, spread it out that the game has a positive value, not only negative but there are positives, there are educational games, health games," he said.

He explained that the Presidential Decree could later encourage the emergence of game creative industry players who could later take income potential greater than the value of IDR 25 trillion.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, he said, targets to reach 70 percent in 2024 from the achievement of game industry revenue at the national level, so that in the future it will no longer only get 0.5 percent.

"We made a Presidential Decree on how to develop the national gaming industry, which was 0.5 percent, in 2024 it could add 70 percent, in one year at least it could increase, not only 0.5 percent," he said.

He added that efforts to support the game's creative industry program need cooperation with stakeholders, one of which is the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy involving the Ministry of Investment for the development of the game industry.

The game industry, he said, currently earns more than the income from the music and film industry, even the two of them combined are still under the game industry.

"This is a potential that must be developed," he said.
