JAKARTA - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) cooperates with international partners for expansion in the global market.

PIS signed an agreement with BGN International for a number of potential cooperation starting from joint ownership of the Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) ship, LPG cargo transportation, ship rental, and others with the potential duration of long-term cooperation.

PIS CEO Yoki Firnandi said this collaboration would also add a PIS fleet for LPGG transportation, in the form of 2 VLGC units which are planned to start operating in the first quarter of 2024 to be jointly managed by the two companies.

"Currently the ship is in the stage of completing the construction process at the Hyundai shipyard, South Korea," he said in a statement to the media, Wednesday, October 4.

He explained that the addition of the VLGC fleet in the future will strengthen the position of PIS, which currently has 97 ships, in the regional maritime industry sector.

Yoki further explained that BGN International, which is based in Dubai and has operated in 23 countries, is known as the world's largest LPG trading company and LPG's main supplier to Indonesia. BGN is also adding maritime assets, with a growing LPG fleet of ships.

"Collaboration for the VLGC business and also the transportation of LPG cargo with BGN is a manifestation of PIS' enthusiasm for business expansion in LPG commodities to strengthen energy resilience, as well as to increase the portion of the non-captive market PIS," concluded Yoki.
