JAKARTA The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that monthly inflation (month to month/mtm) in Surakarta City, Central Java, was 0.31 percent in July 2023.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, BPS Pudji Ismartini, said the score made the city of Surakarta alias Solo the top position of mtm inflation on the island of Java last month.

"On the island of Java, the highest inflation occurred in Surakarta, which was 0.31 percent," he told reporters, Tuesday, August 1.

Pudji explained that the results achieved by the city led by Gibran Rakabuming Raka were above the national average of 0.21 percent mtm.

"In general, monthly (national) inflation is contributed by the education sector along with the start of the new school year, food, drinks and tobacco, as well as the transportation sector," he said.

Pudji detailed, of the 90 cities observed by BPS, there are 77 cities experiencing monthly inflation. While 13 cities are known to have deflation. "From the inflationary cities, as many as 44 inflationary cities are above the national level and the rest are below the national level," he said.

"Then for the highest inflation (national) there is Manokwari City with 1.43 percent mtm, and the deepest deflation in the main city is minus 0.50 percent," continued Pudji.

Meanwhile, general inflation on an annual basis (year on year) is 3.08 percent in July 2023. This level is more gentle than June 2023 which is 3.52 percent.
