Member of Commission VII DPR RI Mulyanto revealed that his party will immediately summon the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, to ask for an explanation regarding the extension of the PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) copper export license.

"This summons is very important to clarify a number of things. This includes the government's plan to issue a Ministerial Regulation (Permen) as the legal basis for extending the export license," Mulyanto told the media quoted on Thursday, May 4.

He added that the government's plan to extend the copper export license has two-dimensional inconsistencies, reflecting the government's weakness in the management of national natural resources (SDA).

Mulyanto assessed that the government's two-dimensional inconsistency is the policy dimension and dimension of the legal form of its own policy.

This inconsistent government policy has the potential to violate the constitution which mandates the control of Natural Resources (SDA) by the state as much as possible for the prosperity of the people.

"If exports of this raw mineral continue to be allowed, the added value of natural resources management will be enjoyed by other nations. Meanwhile, our people only receive the rest of the weapons. This is pathetic. Countries with abundant natural resources, but the people are poor, because the economy is extractive," explained Mulyanto.

Not only that, he continued, the government is inconsistent, because so far it has been glorifying the SDA downstream program, but in fact it has given up on Freeport's insistence.

In fact, this government policy directly collided with Law No.3/2020 on Minerba Mining, particularly article 170A, which prohibits exports of raw minerals since June 2023.

Mulyanto sees that the government's policy is also discriminatory compared to policies for other minerals such as nickel, where nickel ore exports have long been banned by the government.

"The second is a form of regulation that will be issued by the government. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources plans to issue a Ministerial Regulation (Ministerial Regulation), as the legal basis for the export license for raw minerals," he said.

"If this is true, namely the legal basis for this copper concentrate export permit is only in the form of a Permen (Ministerial Regulation), then this is strange. Cook the law is canceled by Permen. The law can only be canceled by law as well," concluded Mulyanto.
