JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) plans to build Tondowolio beach safety in Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra). Apart from Tondowolio Beach, coastal safety infrastructure from abrasion will also be built on Konaweha Beach.
PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the construction of coastal safety could protect the coast from the risk of abrasion and erosion due to the waves, so that it would preserve vegetation and residential areas around the coast.
"After the design process, I asked for it to be continued with a physical modeling for the simulation. The design is fitted with physical modeling, so that the coastal safety that is built will function optimally," Basuki said in a written statement, quoted Thursday, March 9.
It is known that the construction of coastal safety in the area aims to withstand abrasion from the coastal waves that continue to erode and are getting closer to Polalaa-Wolulu National Road and the settlements of Tondowolio Village, Tanggetada District, Kolaka Regency.
According to the plan, the construction of the Tondowolio Beach safety will be carried out by the Sulawesi IV Kendari River Basin Center (BWS) of the Ministry of PUPR.
Head of BWS Sulawesi IV Kendari Ministry of PUPR Agus Safari said the coastal safety would consist of three types of buildings, namely two Groin units to capture sediments with type T along 1,000 m/1 km and a 1,148 m long sea wall.
"From a total coastline of 3 km, the total length of the coastal safety building will be 2.2 km. The stage is already design in 2022, currently it is just waiting for the budget allocation needed of around Rp45 billion," said Agus.
Agus said the plan for the coastal safety work was based on a follow-up to the public's petition through the Kolaka Regent in 2020. "In addition, there are also proposals for security at Konaweha Beach whose settlements are more dense with a coastline of about 1 km," he said.
For the security of Konaweha Beach, Agus continued, it will be handled using three units of 850 M-long type T Groin with a pile of bold stones.
"In this group, we provide access for tourism and marine catch sales, 1.6 meters wide, not too wide to prevent getting into the car. The estimated budget is around Rp35 billion," he concluded.
