JAKARTA - Pertamina Patra Niaga noted that electric car power consumption reached 45 thousand kilowatt-hours (kWh) from five battery charging stations operated by the company from February to October 2021.

"From February to October, at least there were more than 1,500 charging electric cars with a total power of more than 45 thousand kWh," Pertamina Patra Niaga President Director Alfian Nasution said in a statement quoted in Jakarta, Sunday, November 21.

Alfian said that the five battery charging stations operated by the company are located at Pertamina gas stations.

The charging station is indeed part of innovation for future energy needs that is integrated into a new concept of environmentally friendly gas stations, namely the Green Energy Station (GES), which was inaugurated last August.

Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to monitor transactions and the amount of electric power used to charge electric car batteries at the battery charging station.

Currently, the majority of the use of battery charging stations at Pertamina's GES gas stations is by public transportation and online taxis as company partners in developing the downstream ecosystem of electric vehicles.

However, about 10 percent of this figure is actually used by private vehicle users.

"This is the opportunity we want to take, we will use the strategic location of the gas station for the development of downstream infrastructure for electric vehicles," said Alfian.

He further revealed that this energy transition is a challenge, but also an opportunity for the company.

According to him, people will be increasingly interested in electric vehicles in big cities as more and more automotive industries introduce their electric vehicle products in Indonesia.

This condition is a disruption for Pertamina, which has been providing fuel oil products.

"However, on the other hand, we see this as an opportunity how to take advantage of Pertamina's retail network to be utilized and support the acceleration of the creation of an ecosystem for electric vehicles," explained Alfian.

In addition to building battery charging stations for electric cars, Pertamina is also preparing outlets and battery swapping station (BSS) services for electric motors which will also be located at several GES gas stations in the Jakarta area.
