The European Union Now Can't Set Iran's IRGC As A Terrorist Organization

JAKARTA - The European Union currently has no reason to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, said EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.

Israeli Foreign Minister Katz has previously asked more than 30 countries to impose sanctions on Iran's missile program and declare the IRGC a terrorist organization.

We have repeatedly discussed adding the IGRC to the list of terrorist organizations, as former US President Donald Trump has done. However, this requires judicial authorities from member states (EUs) to admit that this organization has carried out terrorist acts. Not at this time," Borrell said during an interview with French newspaper Le Monde.

Regarding the new sanctions against Tehran, Borrell said it needed first "things that could be sanctioned."

On Sunday (14/4), European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the bloc would consider additional sanctions against Iran to limit its missile drone capabilities following an attack on Israel.

Meanwhile, Israel's war cabinet member, Benny Gantz, on Sunday said the government would build an international coalition against Iran.

He declared Israel's retaliation for Iranian airstrikes would be carried out in accordance with "the way and time we will determine".
