Acting Governor of Bali Sang Made Mahendra Jaya stated that the construction of the Gilimanuk-Bengwi Toll Road in Bali will continue this year. The construction of toll roads in the West Bali area previously stalled due to cost problems.

"Immediately (continue) hopefully as soon as possible," he said, when met at the Bali Provincial DPRD office, Monday, March 25.

Regarding the sustainability of the 96.84 kilometer toll road project construction, his party is still waiting from the central government. Because, since the stagnation of the toll road project was taken over by the central government.

"We'll just wait from the center, we've already been set. This is a central policy (and) the center that takes experts," he said.

Previously, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono responded to the stalled Gilimanuk - Mengwi toll road project.

Basuki said the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) from the Ministry of PUPR had met several villages affected by the Gilimanuk- Mengwi Toll Road. The plan is that this toll road will be built across 3 districts, 13 sub-districts and 58 villages.

"Yesterday, the toll road with BPJT met with several villages explaining the progress there," said Basuki after attending the "2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) World Water Forum 2024" in Jimbaran, Badung Regency, Bali, Thursday (12/10).

He said the Gilimanuk - Mengwi Toll Road would be re-traded because previously it had not succeeded in obtaining funding from investors.

"We will tender it because yesterday the initiator failed or failed to get funding. So according to the rules we canceled and hopefully by the end of this month or next month we can tender," he added.
