West Papua Police Deploy 318 Personnel To Secure Voice Recapitulation

MANOKWARI - The West Papua Regional Police (Polda) deployed 318 personnel to secure a plenary meeting to recapitulate the votes from the 2024 General Election at the provincial level.

The recapitulation plenary was held at the Husni Kamil Manik Hall of the General Election Commission (KPU) of West Papua, Manokwari, Saturday, March 9.

Head of Public Relations of the West Papua Police, Kombes Ongky Isgunawan, said hundreds of personnel securing the recapitulation of votes from the election results were a combination of the Directorate of Samapta, Brimob Unit, and members of the Manokwari Police.

"There are 318 personnel who are currently securing the course of the recapitulation of votes," said Ongky, quoted by ANTARA.

The police appealed to all political parties participating in the 2024 General Election, legislative candidates, and sympathizers to maintain a security situation to support the smooth recapitulation of votes.

The police will take firm action if there are individuals who deliberately create noise to hinder the recapitulation of the votes acquired by the election results.

"If there are election participants who do not agree with the results of the plenary session, please take the route in accordance with the provisions," said Ongky.

Chairman of the West Papua Provincial KPU Paskalis Semunya said the deadline for the implementation of plenary recapitulation of votes for the provincial level for 2 days, from Saturday to Sunday (10/3).

This is regulated in KPU Regulation Number 5 of 2024 concerning Recapitulation of Votes and Determination of Election Results.

Currently, he said, the provincial KPU has received the voting recapitulation documents resulting from the 2024 General Election from the KPU in six districts, namely the Manokwari KPU, South Manokwari KPU, Arfak Mountains KPU, Kaimana KPU, Teluk Wondama KPU, and Fakfak KPU.

According to him, only four types of elections were presented at the provincial level plenary meeting, namely the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections, the DPR Member Election, the DPD Member Election, and the West Papua Provincial DPRD Member Election.

"The KPU of Teluk Bintuni Regency has completed the plenary session, and we are still waiting until tomorrow to be plenary at the provincial level," said Paskalis.
