Heavy Rain Since Friday Night, 40 Houses In Bengkulu City Are Now Flooded

The city of BENGKULU - Rain with moderate to heavy intensity occurred from Friday, February 2, this night until Saturday, causing 40 houses in Tanah Patah Village, Bengkulu City to be flooded with a height of 30 centimeters.

"This flood occurred at around 03.10 WIB until this morning. Due to the long rainfall, 40 houses were affected by the flood," he said, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, February 3.

He said the area was prone to flooding when heavy rains and high tides because shallow drainage was considered a trigger.

Therefore, he hopes that the Bengkulu City Government (Pemkot) will normalize and clean the drainage to enlarge the culverts.

"We hope that there will be improvements in drainage channels to enlarge culverts to minimize flooding," he said.

Until now, there are a number of flood locations in Bengkulu City, such as Griya III Housing in Bentiring Village, Rawamakmur Village, Bengkulu University, precisely behind Gang Melati, Kuala Alam, Nusa Indah Village, and Tebeng Village.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Fatmawati Soekarno Bengkulu Meteorological Station appealed to the entire community to be aware of hydrometeorological disasters that could potentially occur in February 2024.

In February 2024, Bengkulu Province will start entering the rainy season so that there is the potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity accompanied by strong winds that are evenly distributed.

"For the next three days, it is observed that there is a potential for equal rain in all areas of Bengkulu Province with light to heavy intensity accompanied by strong winds," said BMKG forecaster Fatmawati Bengkulu Station, Rahyu Meilansari.
