KENDARI - The Kendari Basarnas Search and Rescue Office (KPP) said the ship accident that occurred during 2023 in the work area of the Kendari Basarnas KPP reached 43 incidents.

"The data on accidents in 2023 is dominated by ship accidents with a total of 43 cases," said Head of KPP Basarnas Kendari, Muh Arafah, when delivering a release aboard the KM Pacitan ship, in Kendari, Saturday.

Arafah explained that the ship accident that occurred in 2023 was dominant in the Buton Islands with a total of 19 cases.

"Of the 43 recorded cases, 19 of them occurred in the Buton Islands," he said.

In addition to being dominant, cases of ship accidents that occurred also increased when compared to 2022, which only amounted to 38 cases.

He said the number of fatalities alone amounted to 1,150 people consisting of 1,103 survivors, 35 people died and 12 people were declared missing.

He added that the number of accidents in general in 2023 did not increase or decrease from the previous year.
